Python (2000)
After a military plane crashes outside of a small American town, its cargo — a genetically engineered, sixty-foot-long python — begins stalking and killing the locals.
What people think about Python
Python (2000) is the kind of cheerfully shameless creature feature that knows exactly what it is: a big, rowdy B-movie where the fun comes from watching a town’s normal routines get interrupted by something absurdly, gloriously impossible. The movie’s secret weapon is its game ensemble—especially Robert Englund, who brings a twinkle of mad-scientist mischief—selling the mayhem with just enough wink to make the camp feel intentional rather than accidental. The tone is brisk, pulpy, and pleasantly snarky, with set pieces that keep escalating in a way that makes it easy to watch “one more scene” until you’ve finished the whole thing. It’s not for the squeamish (the R-rated gore and sexuality are real), but if you’re on the fence and want lightweight horror-comedy comfort food, this one delivers the goods with a grin.
Python (2000) is clearly aiming for throwback creature-feature fun: a small town, a runaway military experiment, and a giant snake chewing through the cast with B-movie swagger. The problem is the execution rarely rises above the title—plot turns feel clunky, characters behave like they’re on autopilot, and the low-budget digital effects can pull you out of the tension instead of selling it. If you’re hoping for smart sci-fi horror or genuinely suspenseful set pieces, this will likely feel cheap and disposable, with the R-rated gore and sex doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Still, if you enjoy late-night “so bad it’s entertaining” monster movies and can tolerate dated CGI, Robert Englund’s presence and the occasional splattery kill may be enough to keep you watching.
