The vibe is lean, cold, and relentlessly suspenseful, the sort of movie that makes you realize you’ve been holding your breath without noticing. It does flirt with big, pulpy extremes here and there, so if you want quiet realism you may balk, but if you’re on the fence and crave a sharp, old-school adrenaline ride, this one earns its altitude.

Vertical Limit is clearly trying to be a big, sweaty, edge-of-your-seat rescue thriller where family guilt and survival instincts collide on K2, and it does deliver plenty of peril. The problem is the story leans hard on contrivances and clichés, stacking one outrageous crisis on top of another until it starts feeling less like mountaineering and more like a disaster-theme-park ride.
