Exiled (1998)
A LAW & ORDER MOVIE. NYPD Detective Mike Logan, who was reassigned to Staten Island after punching a corrupt politician, takes on a grisly murder case. When the investigation leads him back to the 27th Precinct, Logan sees a chance to resurrect his flailing career and be reinstated as a homicide detective.
What people think about Exiled
Exiled is the kind of Law & Order movie that understands the franchise’s secret weapon: not the twists, but the bruised humanity of a good cop trying to claw his way back to purpose. Chris Noth makes Mike Logan feel lived-in and combustible, bringing real sting to a story that’s as much about professional exile and pride as it is about a grisly case, while Jean de Segonzac keeps the pace tight and the atmosphere cold, street-level, and convincingly New York. The pleasure here is watching the investigation pull Logan back toward the world that rejected him, with sharp procedural detail and a simmering moral tension that never needs flashy spectacle. If you want a self-contained, character-driven crime drama with the classic Law & Order vibe—gritty, talky, and quietly relentless—this is an easy case to take.
Exiled is clearly trying to give Mike Logan a gritty, career-on-the-ropes comeback story while delivering a classic Law & Order-style murder investigation with a bit more personal edge. The catch is that it’s a TV movie through and through: the pacing can feel workmanlike, the visuals are plain, and if you’re expecting the snap and depth of the best seasons, this plays more like an extended episode with fewer surprises. It leans heavily on Logan’s attitude and frustration, so if you don’t already like the character, spending a whole movie with him in a sour mood may wear you down. Still, Chris Noth brings conviction, the case has a solid procedural pull, and for Law & Order completists or fans of no-frills crime drama, it does the job without pretending to be more than it is.
