The World Is Not Enough is the kind of Bond entry that reminds you why the character endures: it’s sleek, globe-trotting entertainment with a mischievous sense of fun and a real appetite for big, inventive set pieces. Pierce Brosnan is in confident, charismatic form, balancing suavity with urgency as the film escalates from sharp espionage beats to genuinely muscular action, including a finale that leans into high-tech peril with crowd-pleasing bravado. What really gives it bite, though, is Sophie Marceau, who brings a seductive intelligence and emotional shading that makes the danger feel personal rather than purely mechanical. If you prefer your Bond grounded and grim, this one’s more glossy and larger-than-life, but if you want a smart, spirited thriller that knows how to put on a show, it delivers.

The World Is Not Enough is clearly trying to modernize Bond with higher stakes, a more emotional edge, and a geopolitics-and-terrorism plot that feels “important,” while still delivering the gadgety set pieces you came for. The problem is the storytelling often feels clunky and oddly paced, with plot turns that land more like obligations than surprises, and a tone that wobbles between serious drama and leftover franchise camp. Performances are a mixed bag too—there are a couple of genuinely interesting character choices in the villain/heiress dynamic, but not everyone sells the dialogue, and the film doesn’t always earn its big moments.
