Crazy in Alabama (1999)

Crazy in Alabama is the kind of bold, oddball American story that swings for the fences, mixing a showbiz daydream with the bruising realities of a small town that doesn’t want to change. Antonio Banderas’s directorial debut has a confident, slightly heightened vibe—part dark comedy, part heartfelt drama—where the laughter catches in your throat and the hope feels hard-won. Crazy in Alabama is trying to juggle two big ideas at once: a darkly comic, would-be Hollywood romp for an abused wife chasing stardom, and a serious Southern drama about racism and small-town corruption.
