Training Day is the rare crime thriller that feels like a live wire: tense, sweaty, and unpredictable, powered by Denzel Washington’s electrifying performance as a cop who can charm you with a grin and freeze you with a glance. The vibe is relentless and street-level, with action that isn’t glossy so much as nervy and consequential, the kind that makes you lean forward without realizing it. It’s not for the squeamish—this is hard-R intensity with violence, drugs, and pervasive language—but if you want a smart, high-voltage police drama that leaves you rattled in the best way, it’s essential viewing.
