Idle Hands (1999)

Idle Hands is special because it commits, with giddy confidence, to a high-concept joke and then lets it splatter across a surprisingly sweet teen hangout movie. It’s a stoner comedy that moonlights as a creature feature, balancing gross-out gore with an easygoing, slacker charm and a faintly sincere crush-at-the-next-house romantic vibe. Devon Sawa makes Anton likable even when the premise goes delightfully off the rails, and Seth Green and Elden Henson bring the kind of buddy energy that turns the film into a quotable cult comfort watch. Idle Hands is trying to mash up stoner hangout comedy with splattery teen horror and a bit of puppy-love romance, built around a genuinely fun “possessed body part” gimmick.
