What people think about Dinosaur
Dinosaur is one of those early-2000s leaps of faith where Disney swings big, dropping photo-real prehistoric creatures into lush, tangible landscapes and letting sheer spectacle do the storytelling. It opens with a bravura sequence that still plays like a theme-park ride made of light and thunder, then settles into an earnest, surprisingly weighty journey about survival, community, and what we owe the weakest among us. The vibe is part nature documentary, part disaster movie, with bursts of warmth and humor from the lemur family to keep the tension from turning grim. It’s not the wittiest or most character-chatty Disney adventure, and the peril can be intense for sensitive kids, but if you’re on the fence for a visually ambitious, sincere, old-fashioned trek with real awe on its side, this one delivers.
Dinosaur is clearly aiming for an epic, family-friendly survival tale with cutting-edge visuals and a straightforward message about compassion versus brute leadership. The problem is that the story plays it very safe: the characters are thinly sketched, the dialogue can feel oddly modern for such a “realistic” world, and the plot hits familiar beats without much surprise. If you’re hoping for the wit and emotional specificity of Disney’s best, this can come off more like a gorgeous tech demo strapped to a serviceable script. Still, if you want impressive creature animation, big peril set pieces, and a PG adventure that’s intense but not cynical, it can be a solid watch—just don’t expect it to be deep or particularly original.
