Halloween H20: 20 Years Later earns its keep by treating its legend like a wound that never quite healed, turning a familiar slasher setup into something with real emotional weight. Jamie Lee Curtis returns with a fierce, lived-in performance that makes Laurie Strode feel less like a “final girl” and more like a survivor who’s been carrying Halloween night in her bones for two decades, and the film smartly builds suspense around that simmering dread. Steve Miner keeps the pacing lean and propulsive, delivering clean, tense set pieces and a campus-night atmosphere that’s slick, eerie, and satisfyingly self-aware without winking too hard. It’s not for viewers who want maximal gore or a radically reinvented franchise, but if you want a Halloween sequel with drive, strong characterization, and a payoff that feels earned, this one is an easy recommendation.

Halloween H20 is clearly trying to give Laurie Strode a grown-up, trauma-soaked comeback and wrap the saga in a cleaner, more emotional “final showdown” than the messier sequels. Jamie Lee Curtis sells the fear and grit, and when the movie focuses on her, it actually has some bite. The problem is it keeps sliding back into a pretty standard late-’90s slasher checklist—familiar beats, predictable stalking, and direction/music that can feel loud and cluttered instead of genuinely tense. If you want the lean, eerie precision of Carpenter’s original, this may feel like a competent remix rather than a true return to form; if you’re here for Laurie’s catharsis and a brisk, accessible Halloween entry, it does the job.
