Spice World (1997)

Spice World is special because it knows exactly what it is: a candy-colored pop fantasia that winks at its own manufactured fame while still delivering the real joy of watching five performers with effortless chemistry cut loose. The movie zips through London on a gleaming double-decker bus like a musical joyride, tossing in cheeky send-ups of tabloids, action-movie clichés, and celebrity culture with a buoyant, anything-can-happen vibe. Beneath the gags and glitter there’s a surprisingly warm thread about friendship and showing up for the people who matter, which keeps the whole confection from feeling empty. Spice World is basically a feature-length, self-aware victory lap for the Spice Girls, trying to bottle the peak of “girl power” with sketch-comedy chaos, music-video energy, and a London bus as the centerpiece.
