Savior (1998)

Savior is special because it dares to look at war without the comforting filters—then, in the same breath, insists on the stubborn possibility of human decency. Dennis Quaid gives a raw, searching performance as a man hollowed out by grief and vengeance, moving through Bosnia’s chaos like a witness who can’t keep pretending neutrality is an option. Predrag Antonijević directs with a grim, documentary-like intensity that makes the moral stakes feel immediate, yet the film’s heartbeat is its compassion: it’s less about heroics than about the terrible, necessary work of choosing humanity when hatred is the easiest language to speak.
