What people think about B.A.P.S
B.A.P.S. is the kind of loud, glossy, unapologetically 1997 comedy that wears its big hair and bigger dreams like a crown, and that confidence is exactly why it’s become a cult favorite. Beneath the outrageous outfits and rapid-fire jokes, it has a surprisingly warm pulse: two Black women chasing ambition, sisterhood, and a vision that’s both hilarious and genuinely sweet. The movie’s vibe is broad and cartoonish in the best way, but it also sneaks in a meaningful tenderness about wanting more than what the world expects you to settle for. If you prefer subtle satire, this may feel too extra—but if you want a funny, nostalgic crowd-pleaser with heart and a point of view, it’s an easy yes.
B.A.P.S. is clearly trying to be a loud, glossy fish-out-of-water comedy about two ambitious friends chasing a big dream and an even bigger payday, with broad jokes and bigger fashion to match. The problem is the humor often leans on crude, shallow caricatures and predictable setups, so if you’re sensitive to stereotypes or want characters with real dimension, this can feel more grating than funny. The plot is pretty contrived and runs on sitcom logic, which makes the whole thing feel like it’s pushing punchlines instead of earning them. That said, if you enjoy over-the-top ’90s camp, bold styling, and don’t mind a thin story, you might still get some guilty-pleasure value out of it.
