Bordello of Blood (1996)

Bordello of Blood is the kind of gleefully disreputable horror-comedy that knows exactly what it is: a midnight-movie cocktail of vampires, sleaze, and punchlines served with a wink and a surprisingly confident sense of style. Dennis Miller’s private-eye motor-mouth gives the film its engine, tossing off smart-aleck commentary as the visuals lean into comic-book neon, gooey creature effects, and a playful, anything-goes energy that feels like Tales from the Crypt turned up to a shameless volume. It’s less about suspense than momentum—dirty jokes, gory payoffs, and a campy villainess presence that keeps the whole thing strutting forward. Fair warning: the R rating isn’t window dressing (nudity is constant and the humor is proudly crude), but if you’re in the mood for a bawdy, self-aware vampire romp that doesn’t apologize for being a guilty pleasure, this one delivers.

Bordello of Blood is clearly trying to be a sleazy, punky horror-comedy that mashes vampire lore with strip-club shock value and a wisecracking noir-ish lead. The problem is the jokes often land like leftover frat humor, the pacing lurches from scene to scene, and the story feels more like an excuse to string together nudity, gore, and crude bits than a plot that builds tension or payoff. If you want actual scares, clever satire, or even consistent comedy, this will likely feel loud, cheap, and oddly dull in between the “look how edgy we are” moments. Still, Angie Everhart brings some fun villain energy and there are a few enjoyably gross practical effects, so it may work as a late-night, low-expectations watch for people who like their horror campy and unapologetically trashy.
