Even when the seams show, there’s real pleasure in watching it try to turn Hellraiser into a generational gothic saga, with Bruce Ramsay anchoring the shifting eras and Doug Bradley’s Pinhead bringing that cold, ritualistic authority the franchise lives on. The vibe is baroque and mean-spirited in the best way—ornate sets, occult machinery, and a constant hum of dread that feels like horror wearing a sci-fi overcoat. It’s not for the gore-averse or anyone wanting a tidy, streamlined story, but if you like ambitious horror that expands its universe and commits to big, strange ideas, this one is an underrated curiosity worth opening the box for.

Hellraiser: Bloodline is clearly trying to expand the mythology in a big, ambitious way—spanning centuries and even heading into space to give the puzzle box a full-on “origin and final solution” arc. The problem is it plays like several drafts stitched together: the timeline-hopping gets muddled, the characters are thin, and the drama rarely lands because the acting and writing can’t sell the grand operatic stakes. What you do get, in abundance, is nasty, tactile gore and sadomasochistic imagery—more gross-out and chaotic than genuinely scary—so if you’re here for tight suspense or coherent storytelling, this will test your patience. Still, Doug Bradley brings a reliable Pinhead presence, and a few set-pieces have that classic Hellraiser nastiness, making it most suitable for franchise completists who can forgive a messy script for some mythos and mayhem.
