Donald Petrie keeps the pace lively, and the supporting cast—particularly Dianne Wiest and Eli Wallach—adds a buoyant rhythm that makes the whole caper feel like it’s constantly gathering momentum. It’s not a subtle satire and it leans into broad, crowd-pleasing comedy, but if you’re in the mood for a smart, scrappy underdog story with big laughs and a satisfying sense of comeuppance, this one’s a treat.

The central disguise gag is also a bit of a stretch, and if you can’t buy the Robert Cutty persona, the whole comedic engine starts sputtering. Still, Goldberg and Dianne Wiest have an easy chemistry and there are satisfying moments of comeuppance, but if you want sharp satire or a truly inventive comedy, this one may feel like a reheated version of a better idea.
