Larenz Tate gives a career-defining performance as a man trying to come home to a country that doesn’t know what to do with him, and the supporting cast—especially Keith David and a sharply deployed Chris Tucker—adds humor, menace, and heartbreak in equal measure. It’s violent and unflinching, and if you’re not up for intense brutality or a bleak edge, it may be a tough sit—but if you want a crime film with real weight, anger, and empathy, this one hits like few others.
