Cruel Jaws (1995)
A tiger shark bred by the Navy as a killing machine is wreaking havoc in the sleepy tourist town of Hampton Bay.
What people think about Cruel Jaws
Cruel Jaws is the kind of gloriously scrappy shark movie that doesn’t pretend it’s prestige cinema—it just wants to entertain you, and it does, with a straight face and a wink. Bruno Mattei turns a sleepy beach town into a bargain-bin battleground where civic denial, shady money, and a supposedly “trained” killing machine shark collide in a breezy, B-movie cocktail of horror, thriller beats, and accidental comedy. The vibe is sun-bleached and cheerfully outrageous, with plenty of seaside mayhem and the sort of earnest performances that make the whole thing oddly endearing. If you’re craving polished effects or realism, look elsewhere, but if you love creature-feature chaos and cult-movie energy you can watch with friends, this is a delightfully shameless dip back into the deep end.
Cruel Jaws is clearly trying to deliver a goofy, Jaws-style beach panic movie with a “military experiment gone wrong” hook and a steady stream of shark mayhem. The problem is it’s a bargain-bin production where the acting is stiff, the suspense rarely lands, and the shark action often feels more like a patchwork of cheap thrills than a coherent creature feature. If you want polished effects, believable tension, or characters you’ll genuinely care about, this will test your patience fast. But if you enjoy shamelessly low-rent, so-bad-it’s-fun Italian knockoffs and can laugh at the nonsense while waiting for the next attack, it can still scratch that trashy B-movie itch.
