Boys on the Side (1995)

Boys on the Side is aiming for a crowd-pleasing, mid-’90s road-trip dramedy about three very different women forging a found-family bond while dealing with abuse, illness, and starting over. The problem is it often reaches for tears with coincidences and big, pre-packaged emotional beats, so the tonal swings—from quirky banter to tragedy and courtroom drama—can feel more engineered than earned.
