Bad Boys (1995)
Marcus Burnett is a henpecked family man. Mike Lowrey is a footloose and fancy free ladies' man. Both Miami policemen, they have 72 hours to reclaim a consignment of drugs stolen from under their station's nose. To complicate matters, in order to get the assistance of the sole witness to a murder, they have to pretend to be each other.
What people think about Bad Boys
Bad Boys is the kind of 90s action-comedy that knows exactly what it’s selling: swagger, speed, and two stars with the kind of chemistry you can’t manufacture. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence bounce off each other like sparring partners who secretly trust each other with their lives, turning every argument, chase, and close call into a punchline with teeth. Michael Bay’s Miami is all neon heat and kinetic mayhem, where the gunfights are loud, the cars are louder, and the movie’s grin is just as big as its explosions. It’s definitely not for viewers who want subtlety or clean language, but if you’re on the fence and craving a slick, high-energy crowd-pleaser, this one still hits like a summer blockbuster should.
Bad Boys is trying to be a loud, glossy buddy-cop ride where the plot is basically an excuse to bounce Will Smith and Martin Lawrence off each other between chases, shootouts, and swagger. When it works, it’s because the leads have real chemistry and the Miami vibe is undeniably fun, even if the humor is broad and the attitude is very mid-’90s. But if you’re hoping for a smart crime thriller or a story with much depth, Michael Bay’s style-over-substance approach can feel like nonstop noise wrapped around a thin, familiar script. Watch it if you want charismatic banter and big action; skip it if explosions, profanity, and slick spectacle make you feel like the movie’s shouting at you for two hours.
