Determined to avoid another night of driving aimlessly around Torrance in the Blue Torpedo, Joe and Hubbs set out on a quest for fine chicks. Their paths soon cross with Tack, from whom they learn about a pair of foreign radical chicks hanging out near the Frankie Avalon place. Over Joe's objections, Hubbs worms Tack out of the deal, and the pair take a slow ride toward their destiny.

Explained

What people think about The Stöned Age

The Stöned Age is a scruffy little time capsule of 1980 South Bay car-cruise culture, the kind of comedy that finds its laughs not in big punchlines but in the beautifully pointless momentum of one long night where every plan gets dumber and every detour feels weirdly inevitable. It’s got an affectionate, hangout-movie vibe—part dazed-and-confused cruising, part low-rent odyssey—anchored by a buddy dynamic that’s equal parts loyal, selfish, and painfully recognizable when the buzz wears off. Beneath the beer-and-bongs silliness, it sneaks in a surprisingly honest whiff of late-night melancholy, the feeling that you’re laughing because you don’t know what else to do with your life yet. Fair warning: it’s raunchy, rough around the edges, and includes some dated language, but if you can meet it on its own shaggy wavelength, it’s an endearingly offbeat ride that captures a very specific American Saturday night.
