Charlie Lang is a simple, kindhearted New York City cop. When he realizes he has no money to tip waitress Yvonne Biasi, Lang offers her half the winnings of his lottery ticket. Not content with the arrangement, Muriel begins scheming to take all the money.

Explained

What people think about It Could Happen to You

It Could Happen to You is the kind of romantic comedy-drama that feels almost radical in its belief that decency matters—and that one small, generous choice can ripple through an entire city. Andrew Bergman wraps a modern, Capra-like fairy tale in New York bustle, letting Nicolas Cage’s soft-spoken sincerity and Bridget Fonda’s grounded warmth create chemistry that sneaks up on you and then simply holds. The movie’s pleasures aren’t in surprise twists, but in its steady, feel-good conviction that kindness can be contagious, even when greed and cynicism start circling. If you prefer sharper, more ironic rom-coms it may seem old-fashioned, but if you’re in the mood for something sweet, humane, and genuinely uplifting, this one earns its smile.
