Woman of Desire (1994)
Christina Ford is a temptress who isn't afraid to use her desires to get what she wants. When her wealthy boyfriend, identical twin Ted Ashby hires retired cop Jack Lynch to captain their yacht, passions ignite at sea and Jack finds himself a pawn in a game where there are no rules. In their world, nobody is who they appear to be and the only one who knows the truth is dead. After washing ashore, Jack is accused of murdering his boss, Ted, and raping the victim's girlfriend, Christina. With no one believing his side of the story, Jack seeks the help of veteran attorney Walter J. Hill to prove his innocence.
What people think about Woman of Desire
Woman of Desire is the kind of glossy, storm-tossed noir thriller that knows exactly how to lure you in: sunlit yachts, shadowy motives, and a courtroom battle where every “fact” feels like it might be bait. Jeff Fahey gives the story a battered, on-the-ropes intensity, Bo Derek plays dangerous allure with a cool, calculating edge, and Robert Mitchum strolls in with the lived-in authority of a man who’s seen every con—until this one. The movie’s pleasure is its steady drip of doubt and seduction, a vibe that’s equal parts erotic intrigue and legal suspense, always keeping you a step off-balance without tipping into self-parody. It’s not for viewers looking for subtle realism, but if you miss the era of grown-up, twisty thrillers that revel in atmosphere and moral slipperiness, this is an enjoyably wicked sail worth taking.
Woman of Desire is clearly aiming for a steamy, twisty yacht-noir where everyone’s lying, lusting, and lawyer-ing their way through a murder case. The problem is the execution: the direction, editing, and music often feel like they’re racing to the next “shocking” beat without earning it, and the dialogue and courtroom material can come off more soap opera than thriller. If you need tight plotting, believable legal drama, or suspense that builds instead of lurches, this will likely test your patience. On the plus side, the cast has undeniable screen presence, and if you enjoy campy 90s erotic-thriller vibes where the mess is part of the fun, you might get a guilty kick out of it.
