The problem is it often simplifies the history and psychology into broad “good kid/bad influence” beats, so the moral descent can feel more like a screenplay pushing buttons than people making painfully believable choices. If you’re looking for a nuanced, historically grounded portrait of Nazism’s grip on everyday life, this may come off as clunky and emotionally manipulative rather than illuminating. But if you can accept a somewhat glossy, after-school-drama approach in exchange for energetic swing sequences and a clear anti-fascist stance, it’s an earnest watch that still has moments of punch.
