Ken Loach films working-class life with such unvarnished realism that you can practically feel the damp streets and hear the sharp, funny bite of the dialogue, while the performances make every choice land with bruising authenticity. The vibe is equal parts warm and rueful—often genuinely hilarious, then suddenly heartbreaking—always rooted in a deep respect for people trying to keep their dignity when the world won’t cut them a break.
