Necronomicon (1993)

Necronomicon is clearly trying to be a pulpy, effects-forward Lovecraft anthology, with Jeffrey Combs gamely anchoring a wraparound story that links three creature-heavy tales. The problem is the segments feel wildly uneven, and the movie often sprints past character and logic just to get to the next splashy gore set-piece, which can make it more exhausting than eerie. If you want slow-burn cosmic dread, coherent storytelling, or anything resembling subtlety, this will likely feel like schlock in a Lovecraft trench coat. But if you’re in the mood for early-’90s practical effects, wet tentacles, and “midnight movie” energy where the visuals do most of the talking, it can still be a messy kind of fun.
