What people think about Malice
What makes Malice special is how it turns an everyday, upscale domestic life into a sleek pressure cooker of suspicion, ego, and shifting truths—an old-school ’90s thriller that knows exactly how to keep you leaning forward. Harold Becker directs with a glossy, anxious momentum, and the film’s real engine is the acting: Alec Baldwin arrives like a scalpel—sharp, confident, and dangerous—while Nicole Kidman and Bill Pullman make the marriage at the center feel lived-in enough that every new wrinkle actually stings. The vibe is twisty and talky in the best way, full of courtroom-and-hospital dread and the kind of bravura dialogue that begs to be quoted. It’s not for viewers who demand airtight realism, but if you want a gripping, entertaining thriller that escalates with style and nerve, Malice is a terrific ride.
Malice wants to be a slick, adult thriller about trust, marriage, and medical power games—then it keeps yanking the rug out from under you just to prove it can. The problem is that the twists start stacking up in ways that feel more improbable than shocking, and the script can come off as self-important while leaving you with plot holes that make the “gotcha” moments land like a cheat. If you need your thrillers to play fair and add up cleanly, this will likely irritate you more than it entertains. Still, the cast (especially Baldwin) brings enough bite and polish to make it watchable if you’re in the mood for glossy, high-strung ’90s melodrama rather than airtight logic.
