Look Who's Talking Now! (1993)

Look Who’s Talking Now! is the kind of holiday comedy that wins you over with pure, shaggy-dog charm: a family under seasonal stress, a marriage tested by temptation, and two newly adopted pups whose running commentary turns domestic chaos into a warm, silly duet. John Travolta and Kirstie Alley still have that lived-in spark, and the movie wisely lets their push-and-pull play as romantic farce rather than heavy drama, while the dogs’ clashing personalities (and spirited voice work) keep the laughs coming. The vibe is cozy, mischievous, and Christmas-lit—more “family sitcom with a wink” than big cinematic event—building toward the sort of earnest, feel-good payoff you put these movies on for in the first place. Look Who’s Talking Now! is clearly trying to stretch a familiar family-rom-com setup into a Christmas rescue story by handing the “inner monologue” gimmick to two bickering dogs, and it wants to be cozy, cute, and reassuring. The problem is the premise feels pretty exhausted by this point, with a thin, autopilot script that leans hard on innuendo and syrupy sentiment instead of genuinely sharp jokes or fresh complications. If you’re not already charmed by talking-animal commentary and very broad, formulaic holiday plotting, this will likely play as mawkish rather than heartwarming. Still, Travolta and Alley have their easygoing chemistry, the kids-and-pets stakes are simple enough for a low-effort family watch, and the movie does deliver a few mild warm-fuzzy moments if your expectations are appropriately low.
