Little Buddha is clearly aiming to be a gentle, accessible doorway into Tibetan Buddhism, mixing a modern “reincarnation search” story with stylized spiritual history. The problem is that it often drifts rather than builds, so if you need momentum or a tight narrative spine, it can feel slow and oddly aimless. The contemporary scenes, especially, can come off as staged and a bit too childlike in tone for the weighty ideas it’s trying to explore, which makes the whole thing feel less credible than it wants to be. Still, if you’re patient and open to a calm, visually minded, almost storybook approach to big questions, you may find it soothing rather than frustrating.
