What people think about Taxi Hunter
Taxi Hunter is the kind of Hong Kong thriller that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go, turning an everyday urban frustration into something operatic, darkly funny, and unnervingly human. Anthony Wong gives a fierce, wounded performance that keeps the film from becoming mere vigilante pulp; even at its most extreme, it understands the ache that fuels its rage. The direction is lean and street-level, building tension out of cramped interiors, neon nights, and the constant sense that the city itself is complicit, making the ride thrilling in a way that feels both gritty and strangely intimate. It isn’t for viewers who shy away from bleak themes or moral ugliness, but if you want an ambitious revenge tale with bite, nerve, and a surprising streak of sympathy, this one hits hard.
Taxi Hunter wants to be a grim, morally messy revenge thriller about grief curdling into obsession, and the setup is genuinely upsetting enough to hook you. The catch is that the film plays more restrained than its premise suggests, so if you’re coming for wall-to-wall brutality or extreme gore, you may find it oddly tame and even a bit disappointing. It also drops in comedic beats that can feel juvenile, which undercuts the tension if you’re expecting a straight-faced descent into darkness. If you can accept a rough-edged, uneven tone and a slower, more character-driven revenge story, there’s still a pulpy, angry energy here—but it’s not the relentless shocker some people want it to be.
