Split Second (1992)

The flooded streets and dripping Underground tunnels aren’t just backdrop—they’re mood, giving the film a claustrophobic, industrial atmosphere that steadily tightens into real tension and some genuinely frightening payoffs. It’s not for the squeamish (the violence is graphic and the film isn’t shy about sleaze), but if you want a lean, mean thriller with monster-movie energy and a memorable vibe, this one delivers.

Split Second is trying to mash up a gritty buddy-cop thriller with a swampy, near-future London monster movie, and on paper that’s a fun B-movie cocktail. In practice, the script leans hard on clichés and half-baked plot turns, so the pacing can feel oddly dull for something this loud and violent, and the “mystery” isn’t much of one. If you’re coming for tight storytelling, clever sci-fi ideas, or a genuinely scary horror build, this will likely irritate you more than entertain you.
