Justice, My Foot! (1992)

Justice, My Foot! is the kind of deliriously entertaining Hong Kong period romp that turns the courtroom into a circus ring—then has Stephen Chow sprint through it with perfect comic timing and a twinkle of mischief. Johnnie To keeps the pace snappy and the tone buoyant, mixing broad, exaggerated gags with crisp martial-arts scuffles so the laughs and the action feel like they’re egging each other on. The real magic, though, is the chemistry between Chow’s shamelessly clever lawyer and Anita Mui’s scene-stealing, kung-fu-capable wife, a partnership that gives the film both its bite and its heart. The humor also leans broad and occasionally childish, which will either feel charmingly old-school or just grating depending on your tolerance for loud, silly gags. Still, Anita Mui brings real spark, the action beats are fun without being nasty, and if you’re in the mood for chaotic Hong Kong comedy rather than a coherent legal thriller, it can hit the spot.
