Seedpeople (1992)

Seedpeople is the kind of scrappy, small-town sci-fi horror that knows exactly what it is: a lean, pulpy B-movie with a gooey creature-feature heart and a mischievous streak of paranoia. Director Peter Manoogian turns Comet Valley into a cozy backwoods petri dish, where everyday faces start feeling just a little “off,” and the fun comes from watching suspicion spread as quickly as the infestation. Sam Hennings anchors the mayhem with a straight-faced, sheriff-as-detective steadiness that lets the film’s practical effects and gross-out imagination take center stage without tipping into total self-parody. It’s not for viewers hunting prestige horror or subtlety, but if you miss the era when genre movies were happy to be weird, wet, and earnest, this one’s a lively little infection worth catching.

Seedpeople is clearly aiming for small-town paranoia and gooey body-horror on a tight, B-movie budget, with an “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” vibe filtered through early-’90s creature-feature cheese. The problem is that the execution often feels cheap and rushed, with uneven acting, flat dialogue, and effects that are more rubbery than terrifying—fun if you’re in on the joke, frustrating if you want real scares. The pacing can also drag between monster moments, so it plays more like late-night cable curiosity than a genuinely gripping sci-fi horror story.
