Cynthia Rothrock brings a bracing, athletic presence that makes the fights feel earned, while David Carradine adds a cool, sinister edge that elevates the villainy beyond mere posturing. The vibe is pure B-movie comfort food—sleazy L.A. neon, tough-cop banter, and choreography that’s more interested in impact than elegance—so if you’re allergic to rough edges or genre clichés, it may not convert you. But if you want an entertaining, nostalgic blast with real action chops and a pleasantly unpretentious attitude, this one delivers.

Martial Law is clearly aiming for that gritty, early-’90s cop thriller vibe with martial-arts flair, pairing an undercover investigation with family stakes and a villain who can actually fight. The problem is the movie runs on autopilot: the plot is straight down the middle, the dialogue feels thin, and the direction rarely builds real tension beyond “here comes the next scuffle.” If you’re showing up specifically for Cynthia Rothrock, be warned she’s oddly underused, and Chad McQueen doesn’t quite bring the spark needed to carry a by-the-numbers story. Still, David Carradine adds some presence and the fight scenes are serviceable, so it can work as background, direct-to-video comfort food for genre completists—but if you need sharp writing or surprises, you’ll be checking your watch.
