Demi Moore and Glenne Headly make the friendship at the center feel lived-in and complicated, and Bruce Willis is startlingly effective as the sort of man whose absence creates more tension than his presence ever did. It’s not a cozy whodunit—domestic ugliness and moral messiness are the point—but if you like thrillers that linger on character and consequence, this one delivers.
