Beneath the gunfire, there’s a satisfying current of brains-at-work: scenes of negotiation and strategy land with a cool, confident rhythm, helped by convincing sets and art design that do a lot of storytelling on their own. Fair warning: the violence is frequent and graphic, so it’s not for the squeamish—but if you want a stylish, actor-driven crime drama that treats power as something built in rooms as much as on streets, it’s an easy watch to recommend.

If you’re mainly here for early-’90s crime-movie style and a few charismatic performances, you might get some value, but if you want tight storytelling or the depth of the genre’s best, this one will likely test your patience.
