Bugsy wants to be a glossy, tragic character study of a volatile gangster whose ego helps “invent” modern Las Vegas, and on that level it’s often handsome and confidently acted. The problem is it can feel more like a stylish procession of scenes than a story with real drive, with pacing that drifts just when you want the stakes to bite. The central romance is meant to be the emotional engine, but if you don’t buy the chemistry or you’re tired of self-destructive lovers circling the same arguments, it can start to feel repetitive rather than riveting. If you’re here for a tight, suspenseful crime thriller, this may disappoint—but if you like period atmosphere, sharp performances (especially Beatty and Bening), and mob history presented as elegy, it’s still worth a look.
