Rocky V (1990)

Rocky V is clearly trying to drag the series back to blue-collar grit: Rocky’s broke, battered, and looking for purpose by training a hungry newcomer while rebuilding his family life. The problem is it plays like a checklist of “Rocky moments” rather than a story that earns them, with obvious turns, a manipulative villain, and drama that can feel more forced than heartfelt. If you want the emotional punch and craft of the original or the big, satisfying spectacle of Rocky IV, this one may leave you wondering why you bothered. Still, Stallone sells Rocky’s weariness, there’s a grounded Philadelphia vibe, and the mentor angle has sparks—just not enough to carry the whole movie.
