It’s also genuinely nasty in places—sexual violence, brutal cruelty, and grim exploitation that can feel less like commentary and more like shock dressing—so don’t go in expecting a cathartic thriller. If you can tolerate the ugliness, there are flashes of atmosphere, a strong sense of place, and Madeleine Stowe does real work with a role the script doesn’t always deserve.
