What people think about He's My Girl
He’s My Girl is the kind of scrappy, high-energy ’80s comedy that wins you over with sheer momentum: big hair, bigger ambition, and a premise so cheerfully committed to its own silliness that you can’t help but go along. The movie’s secret weapon is T.K. Carter, whose comic timing and infectious confidence turn the fish-out-of-water L.A. chaos into a nonstop showcase of charm, physical comedy, and surprisingly warm friendship. Add in a music-business backdrop with catchy tunes and a nostalgic, neon-lit vibe, and you’ve got an easy crowd-pleaser that feels like a time capsule you can laugh with. It’s not for everyone if you’re allergic to broad, era-specific humor, but if you want a fun throwback with heart and rhythm, this one delivers.
He’s My Girl is trying to be a scrappy, showbiz buddy comedy with a big “fish out of water” L.A. dream and a cross-dressing disguise driving the chaos. The problem is the jokes often land with a thud, the performances can feel painfully amateur, and the whole thing plays like a reheated mix of better ‘80s comedies and music-industry clichés. If you’re sensitive to dated gender-disguise humor or you need sharp writing and believable chemistry, this will likely feel stale and predictable fast. The mild upside is that it has an easygoing, low-stakes vibe and a few moments of sincere friendship, but it’s more a curiosity for completists than a solid comedy night.
