Prizzi's Honor (1985)

Prizzi’s Honor is that rare gangster movie that wears a tuxedo and carries a switchblade: elegant, wickedly funny, and strangely tender all at once. John Huston conducts the whole affair with cool, deadpan precision, letting the absurdity of mob “honor” and the sincerity of sudden romance collide without ever tipping into cartoonish parody. Jack Nicholson gives Charley a guileless, almost boyish warmth that makes his professional brutality unsettlingly human, while Kathleen Turner matches him beat for beat with a performance that’s equal parts glamour, steel, and mischief. Prizzi’s Honor is trying to be a sly, grown-up mashup of mob movie and twisted romance, where the jokes land in the uncomfortable space between affection and brutality.
