Tina Turner’s Aunty Entity brings a shot of star power and moral ambiguity, turning Bartertown into a neon-lit mirage of civilization that’s as seductive as it is dangerous. It’s a bit less relentlessly grim than its predecessor and occasionally leans into fable, so if you want pure, nonstop brutality it may not be your favorite—but if you’re on the fence, this one’s worth it for the imagination, the scale, and the strange, stirring sense of hope amid the wreckage.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is clearly trying to expand the series from pure vehicular mayhem into a bigger, almost fable-like post‑apocalyptic adventure, with Bartertown’s politics and a “lost kids” myth giving it a broader heart. The problem is it can feel like two different movies stitched together: a punchy, charismatic first act (helped a lot by Tina Turner’s presence) and a softer, more preachy second half that slows the momentum and leans hard on the children. If you’re coming straight from The Road Warrior expecting nonstop grit, speed, and danger, this one may disappoint with its uneven pacing and tonal whiplash. Still, the Thunderdome set-piece, the bizarre world-building, and Gibson’s weary decency make it worth a look if you’re open to a less savage, more mainstream Mad Max.
