Brewster's Millions (1985)

Brewster’s Millions is one of those high-concept comedies where the premise is so clean and ridiculous it practically dares you not to have fun: spend $30 million in 30 days and end up with nothing to show for it. Richard Pryor turns financial panic into an art form, sprinting from one extravagant “solution” to the next with that effortless mix of charm, exasperation, and mischief, while John Candy is the perfect warm, grounding counterweight as his loyal buddy. Director Walter Hill keeps the pace snappy and the tone breezy, letting the jokes land without turning the movie mean-spirited, and there’s a surprisingly satisfying undercurrent about what money can’t buy.
