Miyazaki builds a lived-in, wind-swept civilization on the edge of a hauntingly beautiful toxic wilderness, and every frame feels purposeful, from the soaring flight sequences to the eerie majesty of the giant insects. At its center is Nausicaä herself, a hero defined less by conquest than by curiosity and empathy, making the story’s conflicts feel morally complex instead of cartoon-simple. It does have intense action and some unsettling imagery, so it may not be ideal for very young or squeamish viewers, but if you want animation with real scope, heart, and imagination, this is the kind of classic you don’t just watch—you carry with you.
