What people think about Children of the Corn
Children of the Corn has one of those wonderfully nasty horror premises that feels simple on paper and unforgettable in execution: an empty Midwestern town, a sea of corn, and a faith that’s gone feral. The film leans hard into eerie atmosphere—wind through stalks, sun-bleached streets, and the unsettling calm of a place that shouldn’t be quiet—and it builds dread with a pulpy, campfire-story confidence that’s made it a genuine cult favorite. Linda Hamilton helps ground the madness with a committed, human performance, giving the movie a solid emotional foothold as the nightmare closes in. It’s undeniably a product of the ’80s with some rough edges, but if you’re in the mood for a creepy, highly watchable slice of vintage horror, this one delivers.
Children of the Corn is clearly aiming for a creepy, rural nightmare built on isolation, religious fanaticism, and the unnerving idea of kids running the show. The problem is that the execution often feels stiff: the dialogue is wooden, several performances (especially among the children) don’t sell the menace, and the effects can’t deliver on what the story promises. If you need sharp acting, escalating tension, or convincing supernatural payoff, this may come off bland and oddly flat. That said, the setting and premise are strong enough to make it worth a look if you enjoy vintage horror concepts and can tolerate a flawed, low-gloss adaptation.
