Never Say Never Again is clearly aiming to be a “welcome back” Bond: older, wryer, and built around classic globe-trotting stakes with nukes, yachts, and SPECTRE theatrics. The problem is it often feels like a secondhand version of a story you’ve basically seen before, with action beats that can land a bit flat and a tone that drifts into camp when it should be crackling with danger. Sean Connery still has presence and Klaus Maria Brandauer brings a genuinely odd, watchable edge to the villain, but the movie’s pacing and conviction don’t always match the premise.
