Porky's (1981)

What people think about Porky's
Porky’s is a time capsule of raunchy, rowdy teen comedy that goes for broke with the kind of shameless energy most movies only flirt with, and it commits so fully that you can’t help but admire the audacity. Set in sun-baked 1954 Florida, it plays like a tall tale told at the end of a long night—big characters, bigger humiliations, and a revenge kick that turns adolescent embarrassment into a surprisingly satisfying comeuppance. Bob Clark keeps the pace brisk and the vibe boisterous, mixing locker-room panic, small-town corruption, and gross-out set pieces into something that’s crude but undeniably confident. It’s absolutely not for everyone—its sexual content and voyeuristic gags are very much of their era—but if you can meet it on its own terms, it’s a loud, unapologetic classic of the genre that still knows how to get a crowd laughing.
Porky’s is aiming for a raunchy, anything-goes teen sex farce with a simple revenge hook, and it absolutely commits to that lowbrow energy. The problem is that a lot of the humor is built on misogyny, voyeurism, and mean-spirited humiliation, which can feel less like comedy and more like watching bad behavior get rewarded. If you don’t have nostalgia for early-’80s shock-comedy, the jokes can come off predictable and repetitive, with “crude” doing most of the heavy lifting. That said, it has a certain rowdy, time-capsule momentum and a few broad comic performances that some viewers still find fun—just don’t go in expecting charm, subtlety, or modern sensibilities.
