It’s nastier and bloodier than the original—so it’s not for the squeamish—but if you want a lean, atmospheric 80s slasher that feels like one long, escalating midnight chase, this one delivers.

Halloween II is clearly trying to give fans more of what the first film promised: a same-night continuation, higher body count, and a claustrophobic hospital setting that should feel like a nightmare you can’t wake up from. The problem is it often swaps the original’s slow-burn tension for louder, bloodier set pieces, and the pacing can feel like repetitive stalking-and-kill beats rather than escalating suspense. If you loved Halloween for its restraint, atmosphere, and precision, this one may come off as a meaner, more exploitative retread with thinner writing. That said, Donald Pleasence’s relentless intensity and the eerie emptiness of the hospital do provide flashes of classic slasher dread—just don’t expect the same elegance as the original.
