The Fifth Floor (1978)

The Fifth Floor is the kind of late-’70s horror-thriller that gets under your skin not with monsters, but with the terrifying idea of being perfectly sane in a place designed to prove you aren’t. Howard Avedis turns a single bad night into a tightening vise of paranoia and institutional menace, where fluorescent hallways feel colder than any graveyard and every “helpful” gesture comes with a shadow attached. Dianne Hull anchors the film with a raw, believable panic, while Bo Hopkins gives the story a grounded human tether as the world around them tilts toward exploitation and dread.
