Alan Parker turns the High School of Performing Arts into a pressure-cooker of music, dance, and drama where the performances crackle with raw talent and the classroom moments land with surprising emotional honesty. The vibe is gritty, street-level New York meeting showbiz electricity—uplifting one minute, bruisingly real the next—so when the film breaks into song or movement it feels earned, not pasted on. It’s not for viewers expecting a glossy backstage fantasy (it can get intense, with mature language and some uncomfortable situations), but if you want an energetic, big-hearted movie about the cost and thrill of chasing an artistic life, it earns its title.
