Tom Horn (1980)

Tom Horn is a late-western elegy with Steve McQueen carrying the weight of a dying frontier in his eyes, turning a familiar gunslinger silhouette into something quietly tragic and human. William Wiard gives the film a rugged, beautiful look—wide skies, hard faces, and a sense that “progress” is just another kind of violence—while the action arrives in brisk, energetic bursts that feel startling precisely because the movie doesn’t glamorize them.
